Hi Chris,

Told you it would be kind of high. But the cost of shipping a helmet to you in Australia is Regular Parcel Post £78.10 This includes tracking number and insurance. However, cause of the dimensions of the box I can get you two helmets to Australia for the same shipping cost. So..if you know anyone in Australia who wants a Coolus too....you could share the cost of shipping.

pm me if you want to go ahead and order.

Hope this helps

Will

Finally...just received. Photo's of the bronze coolus helmets. Talk about blood from a stone. I have a few more photos coming now. Including a shot of the liner. Don't be worried about the apparent large size of the helmet, the guy wearing it hasn't adjusted the liner to fit.

Okay, here are the last three. So, when I first saw the liner after a year of waiting, I confess I almost had a heart attack because I thought they'd used black leather after I specifically asked for naturally tanned or at very least brown leather. However, the manufacturer says the liner is dark chocolate brown..........

I am also enclosing the steel version too.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

By the way...I was wondering today...has anyone noticed that the majority of relics in the British Museum's Iron Age Section are mostly bronze?

Still no sign of this shipment, I was promised, as usual, that it would be here this last wednesday but today they tell me it is due to ship on monday.

I also have 10 last sets of the KA Roman hamata hooks and buttons based on the originals if anyone is interested. As soon as they are sold, I'm not trading again. Also I have brass plain torcs with the terminals facing the right way this time too. Photos when I have them.

It has a nice bronzy color which I like. I tend to think the cheeks are too large though. But that's no problem. I seem to tweak just about everything eventually! Thanks for posting the update.

Mmm I'll have to wait until they arrive to see for sure but I wondered about that too. I suspect if a change is to be made, simply the outer flat area at the lower and back edge of each cheekpieces would nee to be trimmed and the neck fastner rings simply riveted alittle closer in.

I got the actual weighbill info today so hopefully they will arrive by the end of this week. I jut feel awful that it has taken so long.

You're not the only one I've heard of having to go through this Will; it is apparently more than a little common. Not a pleasant thing. Kudos to you for forging through it though. :)

Very, very nice helms. *sigh*

Thanks Siani,

The goods are actually in UK, currently held be HM Customs and I have filled out the appropriate paperwork and will be submitting it monday at 08.00hrs. So as soon as they are processed, then I will have the shipment released and at my place by the end of next business day with a courier. I'm looking forward to the brass torcs too as I haven't seen them yet despite repeated requests for photos. More news and photos when I have it.

As and when you get the Torcs, Will, don't suppose you could stick some pics up? Or am I likely to see you before then anyway? I'm getting all excited about a new, better, chunkier Torc. Mind you, I wear the one I have all the time, and will wear the new one fulltime as well. I'm trying to make the Torc a fashionable accessory to rockers... I think they look awesome anyway... You can just about make out the one I've got in this live shot here (me on the right- Yeah, shameless plug for the band...) A chunkier Torc'll show up better! *biggrin*

Okay, here are the photos of the helmets all ready to go out.

And me wearing one of the new Neck Torcs.

If any of you, who have already ordered your helmets, would like to add a Brass torc to your shipment, I worked out at the Post Office that I can send up to 2 brass torcs with one helmet for the same shipping rate.

I'll put the torcs on the torc link too.

Hi Jeff,

Now that the helmets are here, Ive tried all of them on and actually the cheekpieces are spot on.
Dru was wearing his bronze version at our show in Nottigham last weekend and the cheekpieces are in perfect proportion. So Im really pleased.

The helmets bought will all have been sent out by tomorrow. I would really appreciate if those of you who get them post a photo wearing them.

All the best

Folkert, I believe the 'Jockey cap' British helmet without cheek plates is believed to have originally had them, but for some reason they've not survived. Certainly there is some decoration on the sides which seem to suggest it is above what was once a hinge. Of course, you could remove the cheek plates if preferred, but the helmet might not stay on so well... of course, I could be completely wrong... Lol!

Hi John,

Yes all helmets are in the mail and allshipments will be sent by Monday afternoon at the latest.

Folkert, none available without cheekpieces. The whole point of me making these with the cheekpiees was discussed originally on another thread. But Dru has got it in a nutshell. Whenever these helmets have been made in the past, without cheekpieces they are not balanced and the evidence for strapping suggests the more stable way, ( like you see on Roman helmets with straps coming from neck to cheek instead if under chin) but without cheekpieces it exposes the face and bare strapping is vulnerable to cutting. So indeed most examples show some evidence that hints at cheekpieces.

Look for the original discussion, I will try to find the thread. The whole point of me putting cheekpieces on (Which are best educated guess like everything else) was in response to the need for quality accurate helmets. Nobody wanted an example without cheekpieces because they are unstable.

Hope this helps?
