What to do with my pictures??

Postby Folkert van Wijk on February 27th, 2010, 4:05 pm

I start having a huge collection of pictures taken from museums all over Europe, their of mixed quality but I also know that a lot of you people out there would like to see them.
On the other hand, it's a lot and there all of high resolution, so I can't just upload them all somewhere and I don't feel like going through all of them trying to figure out which ones are worth the trouble of scaling them down and upload them... After all they all might be worthwhile, because ones you on a project every angle no matter what quality, they might be able to answer questions about construction and such...

Does anyone have an idea of how to bring my pictures into use for everyone here...??
...with Quick and easy to do suggestions???

Why not use the gallery on this website?

It doesn't get used very often!

There is virtually unlimited room in our Gallery to upload your images. I hope it's easy enough for everyone to view and upload there. I tried to make it easy but powerful.

The other options that come to mind are Picasa and Flickr by Goggle and Yahoo, respectfully. Since I don't know how they work, I'm only suggesting them. They might have a bulk uploader that would help you. But adding keywords/tags is another time consuming project that makes the images searchable.

Ok there we go, extanding the Kelticos gallery! I do hope the server has enough space...!
I just figured out how to automaticaly scale down my pictures with Photoshop in a rapid way.
And I am also getting the hang of uploading whole maps of pictures at ones using the print/upload to internet tool of the window's gallery..

So cheers!

O by the way Jeff if things grow out of hand, pleas feel free to filter and delete the pictures or just let me know...
And if someone wants even bigger images of an item, also let me know and I can send them seperately..

That's awesome. So far so good! Some of the pottery that I peeked at so far are the same types I'm making right now. Lots of beautiful artifacts I have not seen before.

BTW- You shouldn't have to spend any time resizing the pictures. If you upload an enormous picture (and less that 2mb), the gallery will create a thumbnail (645px wide) for easy viewing and loading. If it's bigger than 645px wide, then the little icon
enlarger.jpg
will show in the middle of the top of the picture like this:

But it looks like you got the hang of it anyway!

Well most of my pictures are over 2 mb each, so downscaling is nesecery I am afraid. Besides it helps speeding the upload prosess.

And more...
... I also started to "replicate" some pictures.
The replicate function for some reson isn't that quick to use.
It would have been better if this function whas directly to choose from the item "action menu" like the delete, edit etz. functions...

Never te less especialy for Jeff I took a whole bunch of replica Carnix photo's at the Hallein museum and replicated those also to the carnix folder...

Cheers!

Thanks for the pictures! Do you have notes for any of them? Dates? Specific locations?

Giffing them all notes would be a lot of work, I have taken shots of the texts also (sometimes) most of the things I can more or less date myself out if my head.
So if there's anything you would like to know more of please ask, I might be able to look it up for you somewhere... or something...

Hopefully there's more to come in the future...
